| Rajshahi police have arrested 11 Hijbut Tahrir Bangladesh activists including a Dhaka University teacher for suspected ties to militant activities.
They were detained around 12:30pm on Thursday at Rajshahi Press Club.
"We seized posters and leaflets from the detainees. They are involved with anti-government and militant activities," Boalia police chief Ramzan Ali told us .
The militant outfit was supposed to hold a press conference around 1pm in the press club.
The police arrested two members first as they had come down the ground floor after hanging a banner in the press club on the second floor. Then police arrested nine others when they arrived there in a microbus.
They were taken to the police station, Ali said, adding, "They are being questioned now."
The arrestees are DU management department teacher Syed Golam Mawla, Southeast University teacher Ahmed Jamal Iqbal, Rajshhai University of Engineering and Technology student Mozammel Haque Belal, Masud Kaiser of Chandpur, Omar Faruk of Chapainawabganj.
The others detainees are Moniruzzman Masud of Noakhali, Mamun Ansar of Laxmipur, Saddam Hossain of Brahmanbaria, Akhter Hossain of Chittagong, Zahidul Islam of Kishoreganj and Jahangir Alam of Noakhali. | |
