Two Jamaat activists have been arrested at Boyra here on charge of committing murder, harbouring outlaws and other crimes.
Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) arrested Advocate Zakirul Islam and his brother Zamirul Islam on Thursday after being confirmed that they had sheltered slain Janajuddho founder Dada Tapan's second wife Putul at their houses and let her flee after her husband's death in crossfire in Kushtia town.
The arrestees were sent to jail yesterday, KMP said.
However, their two other brothers Zafirul Islam and Zahidul Islam escaped arrest.
The four had close link with Janajuddho faction of the outlawed Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP), said KMP assistant police commissioner (DB) Md Abu Sayem. They grabbed hundreds of bighas of land in Batiaghata and Dumuria upazilas during four-party alliance rule, he said.
Earlier, they sheltered Dada Tapan on several occasions in last five years, police said.
They are listed criminals as they face nine criminal cases including murder, police said adding, at least, 54 general diaries (GD) were lodged against them with Khalishpur Police Station only since 2002.
