The Kuwait government sent another 123 Bangladeshi workers back Thursday morning, bringing the total to 201 since the Gulf kingdom announced Wednesday that it would deport Bangladeshis who were involved in damaging vehicles and attacking police during recent unrest over low pay.
The Kuwaiti authorities were to examine video footage and photographs of the protesting workers to find out those responsible for the violence, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
As many as 300 of the 800 Bangladeshis arrested on charges of creating "trouble" in Kuwait, however, have been released after being found "innocent", the ministry said.
Since Bangladeshi workers began protesting Saturday for better pay, the Kuwait government has also decided to increase the minimum wage of foreign workers to 40 Kuwaiti Dinars ($151 or Tk 10,300), the statement added.
