| Chief adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed returned home early Friday after a four-day state visit to China.
The chief adviser's assistant press secretary, Porikkhit Chowdhury, told the interim government head had flown back home at 2:35am.
His interim cabinet colleagues and high civil and military officials welcomed the chief adviser at the Zia International Airport (ZIA).
The chief adviser's wife Neena Ahmed, foreign adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury, secretary to the Chief Advisor's Office Kazi Mohammad Aminul Islam and press secretary Syed Fahim Munaim accompanied him during his China visit.
The chief adviser left Dhaka by a Dragon Airways flight Sunday night for Beijing. He reached China on Monday.
During the visit, Fakhruddin held meetings with Chinese president Hu Jintao, vice president Xi Jinping and prime minister Wen Jiabao.
During the visit, Bangladesh pledged to set up an exclusive economic zone (EEZ) for the Chinese businessmen to woo investment.
Fakhruddin told the Chinese president, vice president, prime minister and business leaders that Bangladesh was open to Chinese investment.
He pledged all necessary physical infrastructure facilities for them, Iftekhar told us by telephone on Thursday.
The EEZ will offer all infrastructure like buildings, roads, electricity, gas and other utilities and Bangladesh's trade laws will not be applicable to the EEZ investors.
"We have told them that we will set up an exclusive economic zone for the Chinese businessmen," said Iftekhar.
"The Chinese authorities have said that they will encourage Chinese businesses to invest in Bangladesh and showed particular interest in the planned EEZ for the Chinese investors," said the foreign adviser. | |
