The High Court has granted bail on medical grounds to former Awami League minister Mohammad Nasim, convicted in a case filed by the Anticorruption Commission.
A High Court bench of justices Md Mozammel Hossain and Syed AB Mahmudul Haque granted the ailing Nasim four months' bail on Tuesday.
A special court set up in the Jatiya Sangsad premises sentenced Nasim on Oct 8 last year to 13 years in prison for amassing wealth beyond his known sources of income.
The High Court had earlier granted the ailing AL leader six months' interim bail in a case involving besieging the Prime Minister's office.
Barrister Amir Ul Islam, Nasim's lead counsel, told reporters after the verdict that Nasim had no other cases pending trial against him.
Lawyer Enayetur Rahman said, however, there was another case filed against him under Emergency Powers Rules.
The former minister was arrested on Feb 4, 2007, under EPR.
