Detained Awami League leader Mohammad Nasim, who has been under treatment at the city's LabAid Specialised Hospital after suffering a massive cerebral haemorrhage 2 days ago in Kashimour jail, may be freed on parole anytime. Prison department officials of the home ministry, seeking anonymity, said on Thursday.
They said, in this regard real processes have been initiated.
The process include preparing announcement, necessary paper works, readying all the documents and orders, including court order, returning his passport and other belongings etc.
Nasim's eldest son Tanvir Shakil Joy informed media men that the concerned department, including the jail authority had assured them of the government's positive decision regarding the parole of his father for overseas treatment.
Deputy Inspector General of Prisons (DIG-Prisons) Major Shamsul Haider Siddiqui, however, said, the ailing AL leader would be freed as soon as we get a written order (formal) from the concerned department of the government. He further informed that they had also heard about the possible parole of Nasim. But they were yet to receive any government order in this regard, adding: ''The present government is sympathetic to the ailing prisoners and therefore a positive decision may come any time on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the physical condition of Nasim showed no sign of improving as of last (Wednesday) night. He is having respiratory problems again after being slightly improved in the evening.
Nasim's doctors said, the senior Awami League (AL) leader is still in danger as his condition can further deteriorate any time. They said the left side of Nasim has been paralysed and if he recovers he will not be able to walk without the help of a crutch or without support from somebody.
The former home minister was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday after suffered the stroke in his brain at the Kashimpur jail, where he has been serving his sentence in a graft case.
Tanvir Shakil Joy and the family said, they had been making all the arrangement, including applying for possible admission into the Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore for better treatment expecting immediately release of his father on humanitarian grounds.
