June 26: One person was killed by the members of his in-law's family at Helanchi village under Monirampur upazila of the district on June 24.
The deceased was identified as Jamaluddin of Birpasha village under Babuganj upazila in Barisal district.
Local sources said, Jamaluddin after his marriage with Amena Khatun two years ago started living in the house of his father-in-law Aziz Morol at Helanchi village. Meanwhile, Amena Khatun developed an illicit relation with a youth of her village.
When the matter became public, Jamaluddin tried to persuade his wife to avoid the youth.
But Amena Khautun was beyond rectification leading to a strained relation between him and his
wife.
On the day of occurrence, there was a qarrel between Jamaluddin and his wife over the matter and Jamaluddin sounded a warning to his wife.
The situation turned for the worse to such an extent that father, mother and brother of Amena Khatun took up the cause of the latter taking her to be innocent.
On the question of family prestige they held Jamaluddin responsible for the whole matter and started beating him.
Jamaluddin was rushed to Monirampur Upazila Health Complex in a critical condition. He died on the way.
Local people caught Aziz Morol, his wife and daughter Amena Khatun and handed them over to the police.
Woman killed
after rape
UNB from Jessore adds: A woman was strangulated to death after rape at Bhagalpur village in Sadar upazila Tuesday night.
On information, police recovered the body of Sufia Begum, 35, on Wednesday morning, who went missing on Tuesday night from her house near Sajiali police outpost.
Family sources said that Sufia divorced her husband Azizul Islam four years back and also filed a case against him.
Azizul was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment in absentia in the case.
Azizul's cousin Abul Kalam used to threaten Sufia following the incident, family members said.
Another report from Jhalakati adds: A young housewife was violated allegedly by her two neighbours at Mollikpur in Nolchithi Poura area on Tuesday.
Police said IShak Ali and Badal Akand went to the house of a contractor of the area in his absence and violated his wife by turns.
The victim was admitted to Sadar hospital after the incident.
