DIG (Prisons) Major Shamsul Haider Siddiqui told UNB yesterday that Khaleda Zia would be taken to United Hospital or Ibn Sina Hospital for her medical checkup as she had chosen earlier. But she is yet to confirm when she wants to have the checkup.
"We'll take her immediately to one of the hospitals whenever she (Khaleda) wants to go. We've already taken all necessary steps in this regard," he said.
About the treatment of Khaleda's two ailing sons Tarique Rahman and Arafat Rahman Koko, he said they are trying to provide them better treatment.
Asked about their overseas treatment, Major Siddiqui said, "The prison authorities don't have any power to send them abroad for treatment. It's a matter of the government. We regularly inform the Home Ministry about their health condition and the ministry is supposed to take decision about it," he said.
