At least 25 people were injured as Jahangirnagar University saw violent skirmishes broke out between Bangladesh Chhatra League and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal activists Friday over control of the campus.
The clashes, which included gunfire, broke out around 12:30pm, when a rebel group of BCL joined with JCD activists as they raided Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall. A
Some 20-30 rounds of bullets were fired, but none received bullet injuries, said witnesses.
Activists of both student wings had been massing on campus since 10am. Carrying hockey sticks and staffs they had positioned themselves in the mid-space between Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall and AFM Kamaluddin Hall.
The situation was brought under control at around 2.30pm.
