Prison authorities say the administrative procedure for Tarique Rahman's release will not be completed before Monday, while a lawyer for the BNP senior joint secretary general said copies of all bail documents will be sent to them by Sunday.
"We are scrutinising the documents we have received so far. Other papers are yet to reach us," deputy inspector general of prisons Shamsul Haider Siddiqui told bdnews24.com Saturday.
"There is no chance before Monday for Tarique's release," he said.
Meanwhile, Tarique's lawyer barrister Nasir Uddin Ashim told bdnews24.com: "We will send all documents related to the release procedure including the copies of the High Court bail orders to prison authorities by Sunday."
"We are trying our best to speed up the process."
Professor Kazi Mazharul Islam Dolon, joint replacement specialist at BSMMU Hospital, after a routine check on Tarique told us Saturday: "He is still suffering pain in his back and hip. He is also very weak."
The Appellate Division on Thursday granted Tarique eight weeks' bail on medical grounds, in a bribery case linked to the murder of Bashundhara Group director Humayan Kabir Sabbir.
Tarique's lawyer Rafique-ul-Huq said after the ruling there was no further obstacle to Tarique's release from detention as he had secured bail in the last of the 13 cases that had been pending against him.
"The last legal hurdle has been removed with the ruling," Rafique told bdnews24.com.
The other 12 cases against Tarique include charges of embezzlement in the Zia Orphanage Trust case and four extortion cases.
On Wednesday, the High Court granted Tarique bail in a total of five cases, including three extortion cases, a tax-dodge case and a case on charges of accumulating illegal assets.
Another case involving the directorship of the Daily Dinkal was previously disposed.
The detained elder son of a detained former prime minister. Tarique has been undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University and Hospital after his arrest on March 7.
