US secretary of state Hillary Clinton has agreed to visit Bangladesh "at a mutually convenient time", says a foreign ministry statement.

Clinton agreed to tour Bangladesh when foreign minister Dipu Moni invited her on the sidelines of the International Conference on Afghanistan in The Hague , the Netherlands .

"(She) accepted the invitation and opined that the visit could be arranged in future at a mutually convenient time for both the governments," the statement issued Wednesday.

Dipu Moni flew to the Netherlands from the Malaysia's capital Kula Lumpur to attend the international conference.

She had meetings with Dutch foreign minister Maxime Verhagen, Australian foreign minister Stephen Smith and Turkish foreign minister Ali Babacan, the statement said.

The conference is believed to be the largest gathering of the foreign ministers on a single political theme in the world with 72 countries attending it.
